The Bronze Day

OK, well maybe not crazy, but long. It started with an hour long code 3 run up the Sierra Highgrade. A pretty busy hour back, then a while helping out at the hospital. Then out to the airport to get an Alberta ALS crew. Back to the hospital, back to the airport. Three hours of sleep, then wake up and go sub at the high school. Long day follows long night.

The moral of this story: don’t get sick in Northern BC. The time from first losing consciousness to reaching hospital in Edmonton was more than six hours. They talk about the Golden Hour in which a patient should reach definitive care in order to ensure the best outcome. Frustrated paramedics have modified the catch phrase for rural BC: now it’s the Bronze Day.
